Conical Mirror Anamorphosis: a greatly distorted anamorphic image is restored through reflection off of a cone shaped mirror placed in its center. The shape of the mirror allows the redirection of light rays to perform a mathematical operation to restore the shape of the elk in the image. From a kit that features reproductions from the 17th century.

Mirror Anamorphic Cup & Saucer: the cylindrical mirror of the silver demitasse cup reflects and reveals the bedroom of the famous artist Van Gogh. The shape of the mirror allows for a mathematical operation, a type of affine transformation, to map the distorted image on the plate to the restored image reflected on the cup. Locomotion Anamorphic Cup & Saucer: Another expertly crafted product from @luycho using an amazing combination of barrier grid animation and anamorphic projection rendered on elegant porcelain. The warped image on the saucer is reconstructed by reflection off the surface of the cup, however the gold mirroring is comprised of parallel lines that only reflect part of the image pattern. Mirror Anamorphosis: perspective often depends on the lens (or in this case, mirror) that is looked through. This vintage card from 1984 contains a cylindrical mirror anamorphic image. Lady Liberty is revealed by bending the flexible Mylar mirror in to a half cylinder.

For those who want to see the math behind this art, here is an initial paper on the topic published in 2000 in the American Journal of Physics: Anamorphic Images by Hunt et al. 

Vsauce Mirror Anamorphosis: the warped printed image is restored only with a mirror in the form of cylinder- when placed carefully in the center of the image, Kevin, Michael, and Jake appear in their true form. This mirror (along with a set of images and DIY templates) came to me last week in the most recent @thecuriositybox- a fantastic way to start your own physics toy collection. The math describing this anamorphic mapping is quite complex and is nicely detailed in a physics journal article from 2000.

Mirror Anamorphosis: this famous print by artist István Orosz has a hidden anamorphic image revealed by placing a mirrored cylinder over the depiction of the moon in the image. The work visualizes a scene from the book “The Mysterious Island” by the science-fiction author Jules Verne- whose portrait emerges in the reflection on the cylinder. 


Anamorphic Projection Puzzle

This vintage puzzle was made in Germany about 30 years ago by "Dr. F Hein Spiele", and unfortunately there does not seem to be anything like it currently on the market. This is a table top version of anamorphic projection. Here is an example of large scale versions:
